Ingredients

  • 3 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup cheese (Gruyère or Swiss), shredded
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring often, until they are caramelized, about 30-40 minutes.
  3. Pour in the beef broth and bring the mixture to a simmer.
