A classic Italian dessert combining rich and creamy textures without the need for baking. Perfect for gatherings and a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup brewed espresso, cooled
  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 24 ladyfingers
  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until smooth. Add milk and cook over medium heat until thickened, stirring constantly. Let it cool.
  2. In a large bowl, beat heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Fold in the mascarpone cheese gently.
  3. Combine the cooled milk mixture with the mascarpone mixture and stir gently.
  4. In a shallow dish, mix the espresso and coffee liqueur. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into this espresso mixture and layer them in a dish.
  5. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Repeat the layers, finishing with mascarpone on top.
  6. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 240 minutes or overnight.
  7. Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder.

Notes

Ensure the espresso is cooled to prevent soggy ladyfingers. Use high-quality mascarpone for a richer flavor. Customize with chocolate shavings or fresh fruit.
