Homemade Apple Cider

A warm, comforting drink that captures the essence of fall, perfect for family gatherings and autumn festivities.

Ingredients

  • 6 fresh apples, quartered
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup sugar (optional)
  • 8 cups water
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine all ingredients.
  2. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  3. Reduce heat and let simmer for 1-2 hours.
  4. Use a potato masher to mash the apples and release their juices.
  5. Strain the cider through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth.
  6. Serve warm or chill for later use.

Notes

Serve warm in a mug, garnished with a cinnamon stick or slice of apple or orange. It can be stored in the fridge for up to a week or frozen for longer storage.
