Enjoy delicious, crispy McDonald’s-style chicken nuggets made at home for a healthier option.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 egg
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Mix the egg yolk, ground chicken, and salt together in a large bowl.
  2. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Shape the chicken mixture into small nuggets, about 1 tablespoon each, and place them on the baking sheet.
  4. Coat each nugget with cornstarch and set them back on the baking sheet.
  5. Whisk together the flour, water, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and egg to make a thick batter.
  6. Dip each nugget into the batter, shaking off any extra.
  7. Freeze the nuggets on the lined baking sheet for 1-2 hours to firm up.
  8. Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F.
  9. Carefully add the chicken nuggets to the hot oil in batches and fry for 4-5 minutes.
  10. Remove the chicken nuggets from the oil using a slotted spoon or tongs and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  11. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

For extra crunch, double-dip your nuggets in the flour mixture, then back in the egg, and again in the flour. Use fresh ground chicken for best flavor, or grind your own chicken breast.
