A comforting dessert that combines the warm flavors of pumpkin and spices in a soft, custard-like bread pudding. Perfect for fall gatherings and holiday celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups cubed bread
  • 1 can (15 ounces) pumpkin puree
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: whipped cream or ice cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Whisk together pumpkin puree, milk, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, pumpkin pie spice, and salt until well blended.
  3. Place cubed bread into a greased baking dish.
  4. Pour the pumpkin mixture over the bread, pressing down gently to ensure the bread absorbs the liquid.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is golden brown.
  6. Serve warm, topped with whipped cream or ice cream if desired.

Notes

Use stale or day-old bread for the best texture. Experiment with different types of bread like brioche for unique flavors.
